🛠️ Do You Need a Permit?

Yes—most roofing jobs in Colorado Springs require a permit.

  • ✅ Required for full roof replacements and repairs over 100 sq. ft.

  • ✅ Not required for minor repairs under 100 sq. ft.

  • 🏡 Homeowners can pull permits if it’s their primary residence and they’re doing the work themselves

  • 🧰 Contractors must be licensed with PPRBD to obtain permits

📋 Roofing Installation Standards

Colorado Springs has specific roofing codes to meet high-elevation weather challenges:

  • Decking: If your roof has spaced sheathing (plank decking), gaps over ¼" must be re-decked or overlaid with proper material (minimum 7/16" OSB or 3/8" CDX)

  • Underlayment:

    • Slopes under 4:12 require two layers

    • Slopes 4:12 and above require one layer

  • Ice & Water Shield: Required at eaves if the home sits above 7,000 feet elevation
